STOCKHOLM / STUDIO GRÖNDAHL

stockholm_studio_drums_recording_paul_seidel_schlagzeugunterricht_berlin_schlagzeug_unterricht5

Earlier this month my drumlife brought me to an amazing studio, located in the district of Gröndahl in Stockholm / Sweden: Studio Gröndahl. I had been looking forward to this, because i was both in love with Stockholm, since i was there back in 2013 and excited to record some new material for The Ocean Collective.

The month of May is full of musical highlights and The month of May is full of musical highlights and this upcoming Friday marks the release date of yet another important one: the new The Ocean album „Holocene“. 🫶🏻

(Unfortunately this picture remains as the only visual reminder of our intense drum recording session at @die_muehle_ back in 2021.)

It was a turbulent time, both personally, professionally, and creatively, working on multiple projects, finding different approaches to expressing myself, and manoeuvering through a time of transformation.

I‘m sure it wasn‘t easy for most of us, but I‘m glad that music is still evolving, just as much as we‘re all evolving as individuals. We‘re going through drastical changes in technology and the general conception of what it means to be an artist and I‘m excited and curious to see where we‘re headed.

For now: Make sure to tune in and support your (human) friends! *bleep*

I‘m excited to hear what you think. ♥️
Have a beautiful week everyone. Be kind and do it Have a beautiful week everyone.

I mean look at that thing! It‘s been almost 3 I mean look at that thing!

It‘s been almost 3 1/2 years since we started working on the 2nd @nightmarercult album and on Friday we were finally able to release it into the world…

The feedback and support we‘ve received so far has been absolutely incredible and i‘m very proud of what we‘ve accomplished.

If you haven‘t had the chance yet, help us spread the word, make sure to give it a stream/spin. It‘s much appreciated!

You can still get the album download as name-your-price plus many other variants over at our Bandcamp as well.

Feeling very proud of everyone involved!

Reject the race! 🔩⚙️ Today's mantra sounds Reject the race! 🔩⚙️

Today's mantra sounds like an enticing invitation to do nothing. A plea for surrendering to abstinent gliding in the flow of time and letting your soul dangle. What I actually mean by that is: The active negation and rejection of a race against the self. A self-image that, surrounded by omnipresent self-representation, is in permanent comparison mode and is thus driven by extrinsic stimuli that portray (and almost seem to demand) aimless progress for the sake of progress.

We are in a digitally-distorted race against time, which suggests to us that without constant further development, self-optimization and the striving for more, we will degenerate into useless shells that do not do justice to being human. The superhuman becomes sacred, the ordinary life devalued and satirized without performance. Those who don't hurry are left behind and declared collateral damage in the back roads of the machinery.

There is so much potential, so much beauty in doing nothing. Taking the time and allowing a real process of understanding is tantamount to activism in view of the aimlessness of good striving, which defensively, concerned for one's own well-being, opposes this fanaticism in order to appreciate the standstill and inner peace. An alternative to the perverted addiction to capital and consumption.

We are all familiar with these animated short stories that portray humanity as an exploitative infectious disease and a disorganized species that, instead of rebelling against this image, descends into self-pity and misanthropy.

Instead, how about doing nothing as protest and political activism, tackling the affected posturing about creation and progression and altruistically seeking for the self-giving and healing of this very society that is otherwise heading towards collective collapse, a collapse that could actually be avoided.

I wish that people would rediscover the potential of doing nothing, so I advocate for stagnation as an unwanted matter in the cogs of progress so that instead of rushing to our doom, we can actually age and mature with dignity.

Thanks for reading. Much love ♥️
Less than two weeks left until the new @nightmarer Less than two weeks left until the new @nightmarercult album drops! Here are a couple of shots from the recording session back in early February 2020 (!) and a little dive down memory lane…

I had just returned back home from the US after (almost) finishing the writing for „Deformity Adrift“ with @simonxsludge and spent another week in Berlin to prepare for the studio session.

News about some weird new virus had just popped up more frequently and the first early cases appeared on the European mainland, it wasn‘t until March '20 that the world was turned upside down and the pandemic had been declared.

A lot has changed since then. Relationships have developed or disappeared. Priorities and perspectives have shifted. The world seems to have turned into an even more hectic and sped up place that i oftentimes feel very overwhelmed by.

I‘ve somehow come to accept my sensitivity to it though and allow silence and solitude to take up more space than i had previously acknowledged or needed. I wonder if it is my social anxiety intensifying or if it is society grinding deeper into my nervous system. Either way, the effects are more obvious than 3 years ago, but i enjoy calmly observing them and being witness to our constant metamorphosis.

What was i saying? Yes, the new Nightmarer is coming your way so buckle up and get ready for condensed dissonance. 😶

Flashback fwednesday to @summerbreezeopenair 2019 Flashback fwednesday to @summerbreezeopenair 2019 with @theoceancollective 💥

We‘re taking a little break from touring, focusing on ourselves, the album release, as well as other projects we haven‘t had time for during the past year.

It feels very good to slow things down a bit, although this process also exposes to me just how fast-paced our world has become and how subjected we are to relentless performance. I almost feel bad for not posting regularly.

I notice a sense of pressure hovering above my head, while at the same time i realize it‘s not all intrinsic but rather a conditioned behaviour we‘ve all been indoctrinated with.

Don‘t get me wrong. I love working on expanding my skills and knowledge, changing my perspective, but i don‘t enjoy social media as a means to fertilize an exploitative purpose.

If the currency is appreciation justified through total revelation while attention is a limited resource, how much are we willing to surrender to these persuasive constructs that keep on feeding our dopamine-deprived brains?

Will we remember each other without being reminded of our existence through regular visual stimulation?

Missing my spaceship! 🚀 After a well-deserved Missing my spaceship! 🚀

After a well-deserved break i‘m as eager as i haven‘t been in a long time to get back behind my kit.

I‘m avid of improving my skills but also ready to share some of my favourite ingredients, so if you‘re up for it:

Let me know in the comments or via DM what‘s currently bugging you when playing drums and if there‘s anything you need assistance with!

I‘m looking forward to hearing from you. 🙏🏻
Much love, Paul
