On July, 27th last month i drove back to Berlin to take part in a project, organized by german Initiative Musik (IM) and the Ministry Of Foreign Affair (MOFA), called “Wacken – more than Rock (made) in Germany“.

As a regular concept to invite musical media partners from all over the world, the MOFA in partnership with the IM takes certain musical genres and specifically presents them from a german perspective, showing the creative structures of venues, labels, shops, bands, organizations and of course musicians.

My part in this was to present Berlin’s club culture and it’s significant impact on the music scene rooted in the famous districts Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain. After an informative morning at the Berlin headquarter of licensing company GEMA, we embarked on a trip towards the clubs SO36, Lido Berlin, Cassiopeia and the infamous underground store Coretex.

After getting lots of insights and background information, we all sat down to enjoy a nice community dinner at Urban Spree, another nice venue located in the RAW area around Warschauer Straße.

I want to say thank you to everyone involved including the IM, the MOFA, all venues and the people presenting them, the Coretex shop and of course all the very friendly and open minded visitors from more than 12 countries.

Life as a musician is treating me well!

Yours,
Paul
