I’ll be honest with you: It‘s been quite some I’ll be honest with you: It‘s been quite some time since i‘ve been sitting behind a kit.

It‘s not completely unusual for me to fall into temporary states of indifference when it comes to music, especially considering the enormous amount of shows we‘ve played over the past couple of years. But this time was different. It almost felt like an aversion for anything drum-related. I didn‘t pick up the sticks, i didn‘t set up my drum kit, and every time i went to my room to give it a try, i ended up feeling tense and under pressure.

This has been the longest i haven‘t properly played and honed my craft and i surely felt incredibly guilty. Guilty for not catching up with the rest of the drumming world, guilty for not appreciating the privilege of being able to make a living with music, guilty for not feeling in love with the instrument of MY choice.

What happened?! Eventually i noticed that the most recent conditions- the WHY if you will - were related to some sort of self-imposed agenda mixed up with external pressure. Social media and its ever growing content, leading to an all-encompassing sentiment of comparative behaviour is only one facet that lead my mind to run in circles of doubt.

Our minds play tricks on us sometimes, forcing us to believe that the only way out is forward, FULL FORCE. But this time i needed to come to a halt and figure out the causes of my problem, rather than just dealing with the obvious symptoms.

We often compare our paths to others and listen to seemingly profound solutions, when in reality there‘s a plethora of rights and wrongs. We all function in specific ways. Subjectively, objectively, individially, collectively.

Sometimes the best way to deal with ourselves is trusting our guts, sometimes it‘s intuition, sometimes it‘s calculated decisions based on advice and/or experience. We‘re all little bundles of experience and expectation, trying to make our way through this surprisingly elastic life.

Okay... let‘s do this! „Jurassic Cretaceous Okay... let‘s do this!

„Jurassic Cretaceous“ drum notation is in the works... 30 seconds done 😂 only 13 minutes to go.

Please check in on me regularly. Once this one‘s done i‘ll get working on the other tracks as well, so i can hopefully get „Phanerozoic“ drum notation books ready soon. ✌🏻
I‘ll make this year count and dive deeper into p I‘ll make this year count and dive deeper into practicing on a pad again! I know there are a LOT of great books and videos out there, so... the resources are endless. 😍

What‘s YOUR go to spot for practicing? Is it a book? Is it videos? Who‘s your favourite teacher at the moment?

How's it going everyone? ❤️ I've had a How's it going everyone? ❤️

I've had a couple of days off of social media (at least in terms of active engagement, since i often catch myself being sucked in by the vast amount of content from time to time) and i feel both motivated and grounded, yet slightly unchallenged.

I have also caught myself putting too much pressure on my own new year's resolutions and personal progress as i tend to be impatient for results and changes. One thing i know for certain is that all the expectations and planning are controllable to a certain degree only. While some developments can be shaped and manipulated exactly the way you want them to, a lot of changes will happen unexpectedly or unnoticed even.

The biggest impact and influence we have on how things turn out is by being alert, attentive and adaptable. We can set our goals, work on schedules, change our behaviours, but some things are just beyond our control. And that's totally fine.

Here are some of the things i'd like to work on or achieve this year:

• Set up a drum video recording / live streaming setup 🚨
• Finish new @fernmusik and @nightmarercult & work on new @theoceancollective music
• Improve my piano & drum playing skills 🥁🎹
• Write a daily journal & more useful content 📖🖌
• Get a new rehearsal room / studio 🎧
• Run a half-marathon 🏃🏻‍♂️

And some additional things i'd like to integrate into my daily routine:

• Go fully vegan 🌿
• Eat less sugar 🍭
• Take a pottery class 😁
• Take an Aikido class 🥋

There you go. Now you can nail me down to something. I know these things are all doable and i don't expect them to happen within the first 30 days of the year.

I hope you're well!

Have a peaceful new year everyone. I‘m glad you Have a peaceful new year everyone.

I‘m glad you all exist. And i‘m glad that i exist as well. I have never fully understood what it means to witness time, but the older i become, the better i can relate to what history is all about and what it means to observe and actively participate and engage with it.

If time and light bend within the scope of gravitation, this year has truly proven to be a heavy one. And if it has pulled you down this year, may it push you up on your feet from here on out.

Let us make love. Let us make music. Let us connect. Let us forgive. Let us learn. Let us become who we are. ♥️

Much love,
Paul
Yesterday i spoiled myself with a „little“ pre Yesterday i spoiled myself with a „little“ pre-birthday present and made a dream come true... i got myself a proper piano.

Say hello to „Thekla“!

Despite her age of 110 years (yes, she was born in 1910) she still sounds and plays like a charm, telling stories of times before any of us had been born. She has survived two world wars as well as the separation and re-unification of Germany.

And i‘m in awe of her grace and will listen very closely to the stories she has to tell. All of them. I will listen and i will learn... and i hope to eventually be able to share her stories with you.

♥️
Within these hours of silence, let‘s take a mome Within these hours of silence, let‘s take a moment and think about our minds and their capacity to comprehend and empathize with human issues, the ability to adapt and change the pathways of our future.

We can’t ignore reality. We can’t fool ourselves into non-political behaviour. And as overwhelming as the scope of our global issues might seem at the moment, we will always have a direct impact on our surroundings— on a smaller or larger scale.

Many people suffer from a feeling of constant existential angst, an all-encompassing sense of anxiety that translates into both physiological and physical exhaustion. It's a life-threatening process that leads to literal fight-or-flight scenarios. We either fight... or flee from unbearable circumstances.

People are still drowning, people are still living under inhumane conditions, people are still being violated, they are still being exploited and degraded, simply because of their urge to live without existential angst and wanting to move forward towards a safer ground and a brighter future.

I‘m incredibly tired and exhausted, but i‘m also incredibly angry and motivated. And i‘m having a very hard time observing what is STILL happening at and around the borders of our continent... yet i don't want to resign to anger and hatred as i prefer to use this emotional momentum and channel its energy into the right direction.

We have the tools to connect to each other, to break through stubborness and lethargy. We have the strength and power to get rid of institutional injustice.

Activate yourself and your individual power. Support communities, unions, registered associations and groups that engage and actively fight to overthrow these political mechanisms of destructive conservatism.

The only reason we might not achieve these changes is THINKING that our actions won‘t accomplish anything. But we can shift our orientation and focus on working together to make moves and convince ourselves that positive change is indeed in our own hands.

Much love
♥️

I’m feeling very blissful today and despite its I’m feeling very blissful today and despite its adversity, this year has truly had an enormous impact on my mental well-being.

As time seems to have stretched my personal 2020 into a seemingly endless period of experiences, it also showed me that there is still so much more to learn, so much potential to evolve and mature.

My love for humanity has grown tremendously. I know we‘re not flawless, i know we are all deeply wounded and traumatized, we crave stillness and feeling a sense of home and being needed, for whichever cause.

I want this longing to motivate us to enhance our comprehension of human interconnection, because emotional intelligence and mental wellness aren‘t fictional concepts— they are and will be integral parts of our future.

2021 can be the year of our empathetic enlightenment. We can make it so. I love you all. ♥️
